This experiment is an attempt to leaven the perception of light through conversion of medium. While the main objective in lighting design is controlling the illuminance and direction of light through different shapes and materials, this project aims to create a luminous object that holds the light in it’s own flesh. It allows one to perceive light in a static form of horizontally stacked layers.
Melted paraffin is casted layer over layer to form a hallow mass. An LED bulb is inserted in the interior void and light penetrates through the paraffin layers. For a moment, light is captured and filled in each of these layers, before it diffuses itself into the atmosphere.
